Sunday 9th October

St David's RFC hosted the Pembrokeshire U12's Rugby Festival organised by WRU Player Development Officer Jonny Llewhellin

Pembrokeshire U12's Rugby Festival

9 Sides from around the county, St David's, Fishguard, Pembroke, Haverfordwest, Pembroke Dock, Crymych, Whitland, Narberth and Milford Haven participated in what was a very successful event. The Festival saw teams split into two pools based on their ability, which ensured that all games were highly competitive and with each team playing 60 mins of Rugby throughout the day with no pressure of knock out stages or finals it was a great opportunity for coaches to use the day as a development event to ensure all players had maximum playing time and could be tried out in different positions. It was great credit to all the clubs who took part that they entered into the spirit of the festival with many of the players helping out other clubs when necessary, which ensured it really was a Pembrokeshire Rugby community event.

The young saints had four very competitive games and it was good to see the full squad turn out with, which was boosted by a new addition in Ollie Owen who caught the eye of the Scarlets Development officer in his first game of rugby for the club when he scored a great individual try under the posts, Which was not very far from where I saw his father (Dickie Mint) score his last two try's for the club about 20 years ago when we were both playing against H/west.

The Under 12's were assisted once again by a couple of the younger age group playing up and these boys definitely were not there just to make the numbers up, which was highlighted by Callum Macalasts great solo try where he beat 3 or 4 defenders to score between the sticks.

All in all it was a very successful day for all the teams and the club

Sunday 25th

The Under 13's

Played in a festival at Haverfordwest Rugby club and due to illness and holidays called on the services of 4 under 12's boys, the 13's also had Lewys Thomas making his club debut and putting in a couple of fine performances. Coach Benny Davies also highlighted the good work of Gareth Seabury who tackled anything that moved. Overall the Saints played four, winning two and losing two

St Davids 17 - Pembroke Dock 27

The Saints under 12's played their first fixture of the new season in their new kit, which looked very smart and made the boys look very professional. The Saints started well and took the lead with a try by Tom Reynolds after a typical barnstorming run from the number 8 saw him go in under the posts. The Dock replied almost immediately and from there on it was always going to be a closely fought match. Just before half time Morgan Davies finish off a good team try when he came onto to a pass from Ben Perkins at Pace and a beat three defenders with his size and power, the try was well converted by Tom Reynolds to level the score.

Just after half time Pembroke Dock took the lead after some very good work but the young Saints rallied after the kick off with Charlie Young picking the ball up on the half way line and breaking 3 or 4 tackles on his way to scoring a great solo try. However in the last 5 minutes the Dock scored two very good team try's and put the game beyond the Saints

A special mention goes to the under 11's boys who played up, Rhys Symmonds, Tom Clark, Dylan Davies and Callum Macalast all of which were amongst the best tacklers on the pitch
